Nature of Work:

Bartenders are responsible for serving alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks to guests. They do mix and shakes different drinks according to guests’ desires. Part of their job is to entertain guest with different moves and flares in bartending, showcasing their talent in mixing drinks.

 

Basic Tasks:

  • Serve ice cold alcoholic and not alcoholic drinks to the customers.
  • Mix and shakes drinks according to the guest’s desire.
  • Advice and inform guests about different drinks that they want to try.
  • Entertain customer with different exhibitions and flares in bartending.
  • Take orders to the customers about their preferred drinks.
  • Courteously greet the customers and invite them to have a drink
  • Prepare the bill to the customer and wait for their payments
  • Keeping alcoholic drinks on their respective tracks

 

Educational and Training Requirements:

  • Must have at least 2 year vocational course in Bartending
  • Training certificates in exhibitions, flares, mixing and other related training programs in bartending.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a bartender

 

Salary Information:

  • US      - Cruise ships - USD1, 700 or PhP81, 660 a month plus tips.

          - Restaurant/Hotels – USD7.85 or PhP377.75 per hour plus tips

 

Skills and Competency Requirements:

  • A vast knowledge in alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks
  • Above average ability in mixing different drinks
  • Must have ability to do flares and exhibitions
  • Know how to entertain customers
  • Must have good communication skills, know how to use English command
  • Alert in giving customers attention
  • Ability to handle pressure
  • Must know how o interact with different types of customers
  • Know how to handle unexpected commotions
  • Knowledge in basic math, taking orders and preparing bills.

 

Employment Opportunities:

Bartenders are very in demand nowadays in Hotels, Restaurant and Cruise ships abroad. In cruise, they gave full time, higher compensation fee for experienced bartenders compare to Hotels and Restaurants which pays hourly rates.

 

Working Environment:

Bartenders are usually located on the bar area of a Hotel or Cruise. The working environment for bartenders is mixed with fun and pressure. They are applauded most of the times with their tricks and sometimes feel under pressure especially if the venue is jam packed.


Work Hours:

In cruise, bartenders work full time since they serve drinks all day for customers. They usually work 8-10 hours a day. In Hotels and Restaurants, they are paid via hourly rates. They often work 4-6 hours/night.

 

Career Advancement:

Bartenders have no definite promotion; however, experienced bartenders are assigned to train entry level bartenders with bonus payment.
